Any people think of using or are using a C5 in their Pintos?
I'm looking at resources for automatic tranny's to put behind stock 2.3Ls for my wife and kids...since they don't or wont drive standards.
I'm not talking about Hopped up motors or abusive driving.

I am curious if anyone has thought about or done this before. I mean it would be nice to upgrade to an overdrive automatic for those of us that have loved ones who can't or won't drive standard shift cars. The A4LD is just basically a C3 with an extra gear, and behind a mild motor, it would be fine if built right. I am thinking the only issue would be the electronic controller. I am not exactly sure what signals the trans would need, but I am sure they can be faked. All it takes is some ingenuity, and this site has plenty of ingenious people.

The A4LD has a few different configurations so I would do some research on that one pretty heavily. I know my brother had a 2.3 mustang and when the tranny went out, we replaced it with another only to find out the 3 to 4 shift required a different computer and another harness. I think the earlier version of this only required a lockup computer.
i plan to use my 82 c-5 behind a efi code A 2.3 as soon as find a 74 or 75 model year pinto . either a sedan or station wagon. hopefully ill find one in feb after i get back my taxes. ill let you know how it goes
I had a A4LD in my 88 Ranger 2.3 Turbo for 8 years, only had one problem with a broken pump sealing ring.
The waste gate was adjusted to 22lb of boost, i used a LA3 and didn't have converter lockup but knocked off 25+ MPG on my Carlisle trips...
I towed cars,trailers, and went 14.01 at 3400Lb..
Just a everyday beater...
