Title: electric fan

What electric fans are recommended for Pintos? Especially for the semi-popular turbo 2.3 swap?

hey dh...... i have a 77/2.3 and i used a puller fan from a escort wagon with a/c. now believe it or not.... the thing fits perfect. the shroud for the rad is exactly the same size of the stock rad fins. i put one bracket to the right of the shroud,(lookin at it as if you were the fan.) and used long spark plug boots cut into 3/4 " pieces for the rubber isolators to keep it from rubbin on the rad. use long bolts to adapt the fan shroud to the rad. i only used 4 bolts to put it in place.make sure you use washers to keep the rubbers in place. as caps, so to say. there is 3 wires on the fan, use a battery to find hi/low speeds and ground the puppy out.  when it comes to takin the old belt drive fan off, just use smaller bolts and you will see where you have to take 2 cooling fins off the fan motor cover, it wont hurt anything i promise. i have bout 1000 miles on my pinto now and have NEVER had a prob with it.  the 2.3 runs at 190 degrees. didnt take me no longer that an hour and a half. any questions gimmie a screem 406-291-2373. have fan! i meen fun!         rubber side down!   tony v

I got an electric fan with shroud today and it seems to be 1/2" too thick and runs into the water pump. I think that it was off a Escort, but it could have been a Tempo or Contour. Could have that been a problem?

that might be the problem. the one i used was off the escort wagon like i said. and yes, it is close, i just used smaller bolts for the pulley. now there is about 1700 miles on her and still no problems. i dont know if a non-a/c fan from the escort wagon will work or not. there wasnt one there to compair.

I used dual 10" Haydens. I used them primarily because of how thin they were allowing me to integrate them without having to alter the hood release beam and front end structural integrity. They blow through the rad and into the engine compartment. My car is a 77.

Was that Escort fan one of the older ones with a tin shroud and fin blades?

BTW, what are the dimensions of the fin section of the standard 2.3 Pinto radiator?
