Title: turbo swap questions
Post by: dholvrsn on September 13, 2007, 10:35:50 PM
How hard is it to rotate the compressor housing on a Garrett turbocharger without breaking any seals and things?

How many types of 60mm throttle bodies are there? Which ones work on a 2.3? How do you modify these to work on a 2.3?

What kind of linkage connects the clutch peddle to the clutch cable? Do any other Fords use the same item? Anybody have one that they would sell really cheap?

i had a garrett on my '71 , a T-04.  all you have to do is loosen the band clamp (on that model) and rotate it to the position that you prefer and tighten the band clamp again.

Why do you want one of those? The stock T/B only becomes a restriction once most of the others are dealt with (porting of the head and manifolds, 3" exhaust,....). Lots of people out there making 300+ RWH with the stock T/B.

As far as what types, try to get one that takes the same TPS and IAC; that should make it easier.

IMHO: Put it all in as stock, get it running well, THEN start upgrading (ported parts excluded). If you keep it all stock it will let you trouble shoot any problems you might have, and you won't need to try to figure out if it is an "upgrade issue" or an "install issue."

My turbo has six bolts with three clamps holding the snail shell down.

Tell me about these TPS and IAC.

More questions:

Can you really redrill the engine mounts to down it 5/16" for more hood clearance?

Will this fix the stock throttle body bell-crank from hitting the hood?

You do know what they are and what they do, right.....?

If not, put the wrenches down and step away from the car.

NO, I did not re-drill the mounts, I re-drilled the engine mount BRAKETS. Also mentioned in my thread, the 79/80 might need less work to get the needed room, but you might still need to grind a little off the T/B and linkage.
