I am a new member to this site. I have a 71 Pinto (lovingly named Polly Pinto) that my father bought new for me to go back and forth to college. I drove her every day until my mother convinced me to buy a new vehicle in the late 80's. I was going through a divorce and travelling back and forth to Washington, DC and she was worried about my safety. I drove her less and less until a neighbor's kid started stealing engine parts for his car. I retrieved what I could but I'm not sure that I got everything back that I need. She and I have a great history and nothing would give me greater pleasure than to restore her to her former glory. My nephew just bought a restored 1970 Dodge Challenger and suggested I see if you fellow Pinto lovers have any sites you can steer me to for parts. Also, any stories on your restoration project would be appreciated. My nephew suggested that I strip everything out, have any body work done and painted first. Thanks, in advance, for any help you can give me.
Your nephew is on the right track. Most of the mechanical parts are relatively easy to find, but it is the plastic interior pieces and sheetmetal body panels that are the tougher to find items. I wish you lots of luck, and peruse to forums here because there is a plethora of information for upgrading and restoring our favorite "pony" car. plus, if someone here does not know how to answer your question, more than likely we can get you pointed in the right direction.
