Title: Mustang 4 link in a Runabout
Post by: vonkysmeed on May 24, 2004, 09:52:23 PM
Stop me if you have heard this before,

Has anyone tried and  accomplished installing a Fox body mustang rear end into a Pinto runabout with the 4 link still in tact?  I know that there is some major reworking to be done to do that, but is it possible?.  I already have removed the tank, but will not do any cutting of the car until I have a mustang that will sacrifice its engine, trans and rear end and have determined that it is possible to do that installation.

width wise it will fit, however i've never seen it with the mustang set up, i'm sure it can be done.....if you can weld and fabricate or you have lots o $$$ ;D

Mustang 4 link is actually not a great design... if you like turns.
The anglrd links bind up pretty bad.
A tru parallel 4 link would be a much better choice.

That was a concern, but since we have one...

Now I'm thinking just use the lower links & fab up a Panhard bar (if I'm remembering the live axle parts correctly) for lateral control.

BTW, anyone know what the Foxbody axle width is?  The car isn't handy for measurement right now.

I'm a little late with this, but you would need both lower links, one upper link, and a panhard bar.  Don't forget about some reinforcement for the upper spring perch; might as well do coil-overs.

The idea was a thought.  We have moved on to a Mustang II rear end.  That was a lot easier so far.
