Title: Front fender questions
Post by: hellfirejim on September 04, 2007, 08:58:45 AM
A noted in my project update I had to take the right front fender off.  Not a bad deal. When I took the fender of there appeared to be some type of cauking along the top of the inner panel.  It didn't look like any factory sealing but more like a line of cauking that got flattened when the fender was bolted down.  Is this cool???  I need to put the fender back on and I just wanted to touch base with you guys first.

Almost forgot, the inner fender panel were the battery used to sit is all rusty and holely.  Are there replacement panels or do I have to make something?  If I do have to make something, can I get that section from somebody parting out the car?  I figured that most are that way.  Thanks

Hey Jim,
Windshield caulk works ok. There may be a specialty body ribbon out there that you can buy.
Make sure that U use about the same year inner fender pannel as the early Pinto is much different.
Here is a shot of the pannel I made to fix the rot from the Battery

Is it an exact year for year deal or is there any wiggle room?

Hello hellfirejim,
I would say 74-UP will work.
Here R some photos of the specialty caulk stripps I bought at NAPA Auto Parts about 12.00

Hey Jim that caulk that Pintony had mentioned works great for many different purposes such as, I used it to hold the Vapor Barrier on the doors behind the Panels & I also used it to seal my welds on my floor pans. I've also used it on other cars for minor purposes.
