I'VE GOT 77 WAGON THAT I AM ABOUT TO DISMEMBER
IT HAS A HITCH ON IT. I'LL LOOK TOMORROW TO SEE
IF IT IS A FACTORY BUILT HITCH OR SOMETHING THAT
SOMEONE BUTCHERED ON. I THINK IT IS A FACTORY
ONE AND I'LL SEE IF IT COULD FIT ON A 75. THE WAY
THE BUMPERS MOUNT I THINK IT MAY FIT. LET ME
KNOW IF YOU THINK YOU MAY BE INTERESTED.

I built a class I receiver hitch for my '74 Runabout. I can take pics of it, give instructions how I built it.

Hey Crazyhorse,

Can you post your trailer hitch "how to" to the site for everyone?
I have a 79 Pinto and may want to consider pulling my jet ski.  If it's doeable I could get rid of my GMC Safari.

My dad had a trailer hitch on our 78 sedan, and pulled a truck bed trailer behind it for tree trimmings, etc.  It was basically a couple pieces of flat bar and a couple bolts.  One piece of flat bar was bent into an "L" shape.  This was the major part of the hitch.  It had two holes in one part of the L (for assembly) and a large hole in the other part of the L (for the hitch ball).  The other piece of flat bar had two holes in it, and was just long enough to fit inside the aluminum bumper.  The two bolts sandwich the bumper between the two pieces of flat bar.

If I remember right it also had a couple of loops for chains on it.

When I got the one for my 87 Mustang LX, it basically mounts the same way, but it is a 1 1/4 square class I receiver hitch, and it also has a piece of steel bar that bolts to the bottom of the bumper out board of center.  I think that this hitch could be used on the later model "5MPH crash" bumpers.

Has any one purchased a hitch from U-haul? U-haul is having a clearance sale on hitches, and there is one that they claim will fit my 1957 wagon. Clearance price $37.66 and free shipping!
