Title: Trunk seal
Post by: mrpinto on August 25, 2007, 03:21:24 PM
I ordered a trunk seal on ebay for my Pinto, but it doesn't even come close to fitting, looks like a door seal for some other vehicle. Is there any weatherstrip suitable for the trunk of my pinto from JCW or a similar place. I've been looking a seen a few, just wanted to know if any of you used something else, and how well it worked.

I bought the trunk weather strip also from him and had to return it.  What he sent me was designed to fit in a recessed channel (not even close to the Pinto).  He kept saying it was the correct piece and that it fit his Pinto out back (he may be confuse on what car he has).  He has a couple listing presently on ebay and here is one of them http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/pinto-weatherstripping-trunk_W0QQitemZ190031561697QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item190031561697 .   I can not tell if he mistakenly sent me the wrong part or if he is just out to lunch.  If you buy this, be prepared to return it.

I didn't get the trunk seal from Ebay seller bobbyward that Oldkayaker pointed out but I did get the seal for the hatchback that he states he has in the ad for the trunk seal. Pintony told me once it's the best match he's seen for the hatchback as I recall, Correct me if I'm wrong Tony...

When I first got it I was ready to send it back but once I figured out how to mount it... it stayed on my car. The hatch seal didn't look anything like the origional but it did work.... just something to consider.... may not look exactly the same as the origional but as it was in my case it may work....

The seal for Cookieboys Early Pinto does look good.
Somewhere Ford straightend out the rear hatch sheetmetal and also changed the seal.
Not sure where the change came. Maybe I will get back to the answer later???
I really need a trunk seal + some hatch seals so I am looking into this.

I got some from 3M to replace the TRUNK seal on my 77. It works great, but I don't know if it "looks" correct. The only issue is that it comes in a roll that is too short, so I needed to buy two rolls. When I find the package with the scrap, and I HAVE REGUALR ACCESS TO THIS SITE, I will post the details.
