Title: Transmission rear weight
Post by: Pangra74 on August 12, 2007, 05:41:31 PM
Hey,

Does anyone know the purpose of the heavy weight that hangs on the end of the Pinto trannys? I thought it was a balance weight, but I wonder if it is for reducing harmonic vibrations. I've had issue with my 74 with engine vibrations being transmitted through the car. I changed the front motor mounts which seems to have helped some. When I put in the T-5 I left off the weight. I may put it back on to see if there is any difference.

Yes, it is a inertial/vibration dampener. It is there to help reduce noise and vibrations.

I have run with and without them, could not tell the difference.
