hello everyone i am new here. this looked like a good place to find some answers to questions i have about my car which is a pro 4 race car with a ford pinto front clip and a 2300 bored over .30= 2500 engine and a 4 speed trans with a 2.12 2nd gear. since this car has been built by someone other than me, i have no idea if the tranny is pinto,mustang,etc.. the tranny i have now is junk. i need another with the 2.12 second gear. does anybody know what type of car i need to be looking for to get what i need. all the guys in the pits are real secretive and wont hardly come off with any info. everybody around here says they only have 1.96 second gear. any help on this would really be great! thanks brandon 8)

I believe that 4speed pinto trans had a 1st=3.65, 2nd=1.97, 3rd=1.37, 4th=1.00, Reverse=3.66 ratios. If you can go with a 5speed trans you could get a tranny out of a 85-86 svo mustang. The ratios are 1st=3.5, 2nd=2.14, 3rd=1.39, 4th=1, and 5th=.78

I can't find information if the Pinto ever had a 2.12 2nd gear. The closest I can find is a 2.14 in the 77 to 79 sedans with the 2.73 rear. Lots of racers used the Mustang II and early Fox body B/W trannies, but I have seen where people say that they were in Pintos too, but most say they were not. Is your tranny an alum. case one? Also, check to see how the shifter mounts, if it has a 3 bolt flange, it is B/W tranny.
