looks factory, is it? if so does anybody have the plug for the hole and would be willing to share????
75 runabout 4 spd car.
thanks
jim
That is where the neutral saftey / reverse light pigtail harness goes thru. That harness is needed so the car will start. If it is not connected, the starter will not engage. I have a spare harness for an auto car but not a 4spd. I was told they are different. I assume someone bypassed it on your car?
Good question i do not have a clue. I need a wiring diagram...Does anybody have a picture of what is supposed to look like?
jim
Heyu hellfirejim,
Those are great photos and a great question.
Sorry I do not have the answer for you.
This is great info for the group.

That is because the original Pinto would never run a wire through a hole near the drivers foot!!!! ;D
I just had to look... both the 77 and 80 autos have the plug and hole.
is kind of a weird place to put it...
The C4 has the connector on that side, but the 4spd has it on the other and the harness is much longer for it. I can't remember where it is on the C3.

Here are a couple pictures from my Cruising wagon. The harness plugs into a gray connector that is behind the jockey box. I also included a picture of the spare C3 harness I have. Hope this helps some.
early cars with a manual trans didn't have a neutral safety switch.
First thanks for the replies.
Now if I understand all of this, the early cars [71-73???] did not have a neutral safety switch.
The C-4 and C-3 used the hole for the neutral and reverse pigtail on the driver's side.
The 4 spd cars had the pigtail on the pass side and used a blockoff plug.
Does anybody have a block off plug?????
Every car that you get always has an OH $h8T area and I think mine is going to be the wiring. Looking at what has been done and how it has been done I know I am going to need a wiring diagram for my 75. I have a feeling it is going to an adventure when I get the battery in and put the juice to it.
Any and all help is appreciated.
jim
Let me look at the 74 i am parting for the plug the floor on that side is shot but i will look.
Phils toys
Update no plug sorry.
The 77 Pinto 4spd I got from Jane has the harness on the drivers side floor, and it goes up and over to the right side of the tranny.
Bill
Well i ordered today a Haynes manual and it should get here in a few days. Hopefully it will have the definative answer.... or not. : )

Both of my 80 Pinto Wagons had that Hole and a wiring harness. I cut one down for the T-5 Swap, but I have a extra 4 spd. one. The plug end, I agree that it plugs into a Grey plug under the dash, but for thr Four Speed it's only for the Reverse Lights no Clutch Saftey Switch. Neither of my 80's (last year of production) had a Clutch Saftey Switch.
If you need the Reverse Light Switch Wiring Harness let me know.
On the block off plug, all you have to do is measure the Dia. of the hole and use a rubber plug to fill it. If you cant find any go the the JY and find one in an Engine Compartment of any car that has the same Dia. and use that one.

Thank you for the kind offer of the reverse light pigtail. Looking at the wiring I would say I most likely I will need it. I thought about a junkyard plug but this is not round more of an oval. Looking in the engine compartment and I see the speedo cable laying across the back of the block. :o :text_yb_warning: yeah the electricals on this car are going to be fun. ;D
My shop manual for the car should be here in a couple of days. I will let you know then.
Thank you I appreciate it.

UPDATE:
Just to update everybody, I found the female plug behind the controls and unfortunately it had the male plug but only 6" of wire. ["clip, clip"]
Fortunately Rick is sending me a plug that I need and I am going to get the wire harness from Turbowagonman.
Thanks for all the help and there WILL be more questions.
