Is there a VIN decorder for the merc bobcat/ford pinto. I need to know the gear set and size of my diff. I have a 80' 2.3l with the 4spd. I think I do have the 6.75 rear diff. Also any inforemation regarding passable swaps to an 8.8 or 9 in. would be great. Tring to shoehore in a man O' war 302. 6.75 will not handle the power...(DUH??) Any info would be great...
Most Pinto drivers swap to the mustang II 8" rear.
Bolts right in.
From Pintony
6.75 looks like a miniature version of the 8.8, with a rear cover...
8" looks like a miniature version of the 9" with the removable center section...
The 8" rears were good enough for Ford to put them behind 289s and 302s back in the 60s Mustangs, and they came in some Pintos, and bunches of Mustang IIs. For quick swap-ability, go for one of these. As far as I know, there are no direct swappable 8.8 or 9" rears. You would likely need to get it narrowed and get the spring/shock mounts put on in the correct locations.
If ANYONE has anything to dispute this, let us all know, as I am sure I am not the only one who would LOVE to know of a slide-in 8.8 or 9" setup, short of custom-made.

I've got a V-6 Pinto Wagon 8" rear in my Wagon, that was a direct bolt in.
I know a guy who has an 8.8 out of a Turbo Coupe in his Bobcat Wagon, it was DEFINATLY not a direct swap.
I've read that the late 70's to early 80's Lincoln Versalies 9" ~IS~ a direct bolt in. I've read this Twice from Two different sources, now as for finding one of those Granada look-a-like Lincols........well thats a different story!
Just a little FYI
