Title: Was this Pinto ever made?????
Post by: turbowagonman on July 18, 2007, 04:23:16 PM
A freind of mine is looking at a Pinto. He told me it is a 1978 "Boss Pinto", so my question is were these ever made or was it a "Dealer Option"?
The one he is looking at has a 5.0 motor in it. The ad says it has Original paint on it but I'm not to sure if they were ever made. I think it's a rumor just like the "Original Turbo Pinto".
I think a person who bought the car sometime in it's life (of the car) just put a Stripe resembling a Boss Mustang on it, but I maybee wrong. It wouldn't be the first time and it definatly wont be the last.
Thanks in advance

Someone made it, but not Ford.

I get people that come up to me all the time and tell me that Ford produced a V8 and or a turbo Pinto. They tend to be very sure of themselves too.....

I still want to find a "LA1" ECU....

Both the stripe & "Hot Pants" bodykit were dealer add ons. So yes it MIGHT have been purchased new looking like that. NO it didn't come with the V8. Unless some adventurous Ford dealer was installing them. I've never seen that particular color on a '78. Doesn't mean it didn't exist tho.
In short no. Ford didn't build it like that, but it's possible, however unlikely, that it was purchased new like that. Several dealers had unique option packages for the Pinto. Case in point, Huntington Ford's Pangra.

Never say "never", it usually bites you. ;)

looks to me that stripe was painted on or some cheap knock off. It's like mine and not correct, the ford "sticker" looks much better and has rounded corners like the early 70's Mach 1's. also looks like they only used the side pieces of the hot pants kit as the behind rear wheel looks to be missing, front and rear spoilers are not seen either in the picture.

I'm sorry I forgot to mention that he knows the engine was changed over to the V-8. I also mentioned to him about an incomplete Hot Pants Kit. This is the guy who's spoiler I'm trying to sell, so he'll have a front spoiler when (hehe!) he gets this car.
You guys are all agreeing with me when I thought, IF it was a "Boss Pinto" it's a "Dealer" option.

Thanks

Go to Cookieboy's montage with different Pinto ads, and pause at one minute and 51 seconds.  This looks like one of these Boss Pintos.
