It looks pretty clean and the price is right. It is in better shape than when I got mine. I see lots of potential in that car.....Go for it!
I'd call this a 50/50 car. It looks good from 50' away at 50 mph.
As I look at this the bidding ended at $750 and the reserve hadn't been met. This tells me that you're going to spend more than the car's worth because:
a) The reserve was possibly around $1,000. Personally, based on the year, model, and description, I wouldn't pay over $500. So, it was 50% higher than what I would give, and the seller wanted even more.
b) Depending on what you want to do with it, you at least have some trans work to consider. There's another, what, $350-$500? Then if you want to do a "pride" resto, there's about 3/4 of the skin that needs repaired due to "minor" stuff like welded washers on the cowl, bubbling rust on the fender wells, rubs along the left side, etc. If you want to do a full "show" resto, you're looking at even more intense body work which would involve *replacing* said deficiencies instead of just a sand/Bondo/touch-up-paint job. If you want to rod it, you've got at least a "pride" resto as well as mechanical mods to consider. I guess it just depends on how deep your wallet is, how much time you have to dink around with the car, and how bad you really want an '80 Pinto coupe.
c) Chances are the seller may repost the car without a reserve or with a lower reserve (hmmm...$750, perhaps?). Keep in mind it went to $750 once. It'll probably go higher if it's reposted and somebody reeeeeealy wants it.
Me, I'd pass. But that's just one man's opinion. If you really want a Pinto, keep your eyes open, they're out there.
