Title: Interesting discoveries today in the yard...
Post by: orangerunabout on May 02, 2004, 12:36:22 AM
Found a 1980 pinto in the yard today, went to look and see if it was an auto and it was (I needed a shifter and linkage for my C4.) So out of curiosity I popped the hood and saw a 2.3, I was curious if it was a C3 or C4 so I crawled under it to count the pan bolts and counted 11. Thought i was seeing things so i counted 2 more times and still got 11 then had a buddy I met up there double check. Turns out, it was a 2.3L pinto with a C4 made in 1980 (the trans code was "W" so it was actually factory equipped. It also had something else weird, the back windows were like the ones on minivans, they popped out.

Just thought I would share with everyone that may be looking for a C4 and/or bellhousing.

if its a C4, they are rare on the 2.3  Everyone seems to be looking for them. I would buy it, you could sell it on turboford.org ,  here,  They are in short supply.

Actually, I'm building a 2.3t pinto and got it for myself lol...

Everyone said that after 75 they did not put the 2.3/c4 combo in any pintos, so I posted this to show that they actually did.

OK maybe I'm seeing things too... My pan on my Pinto has 11 bolts. SUPPOSEDLY the trans came from an '83 Cougar XR-7 turbo. considering what y'all are saying, mine can't possibly be a C4, but if it isn't the pan is lying. I know this trans came from a turbo cause I had to change the vacuum modulator. it wasn't leaking and worked great at part throttle, but refused to shift except at redline at WOT. so I'm assuming it was designed for boost rather than vacuum.

BTW pop out windows aren't unusual , especially on later models. they were a common option
