While looking at a 72 pinto hatchback for sale here and possibly buying it, a passer-by said that the only real mechanical problem he ever had with a Pinto was the flywheel bolts tend to back out by them-self, and if I decided to purchase the car, then I should push the transmission back, pull out the flywheel bolts, put some loctite on them and then torque them back down to spec.
Should I be worried about the bolts backing themselves out on my 78 Sedan? If so, how do I just push the transmission back enough to fit a torque wrench in to back out the bolts?
IMHO: That person might have known of one person that had that happen. It could have happened because who-ever did THAT one, did not torque the bolts correctly to start with. I have never had that problem, and I have not heard of it being a "Pinto" issue.
I get people that come up to me all the time and tell me weird and un-true Pinto stuff (like: they explode, FORD sold V8, and turbo Pintos, they explode...)

It's really not a problem. Although I did knock the flywheel off my '71. It was through sheer abuse. Standing starts from 3-4 thousand rpm & speed shifting relentlessly. The car had a modified 2.0. Turbo etc. It was a problem, in my case of abuse of the car
