I am on a trip down memory lane and have been trying to find a picture that looks like my boyfriend's Pinto that he had when we were in high school. He already had it by 1974, don't remember if it was new or not. It was red with a black roof, with a tan or beige interior. The way I remember it, it was sort of like a hatchback (but I don't think that word was in existence then). I remember that the back area was flat, either by itself or pulling the seats down, that we were able to comfortably snuggle. I have been looking all over online and maybe it would help if I could figure out what model or year this might be. Is there a guide somewhere that lists the models and paint colors for around this time?
For the rear seat to fold down, it had to have been a wagon or HB, not a sedan (trunk). With what you said, it sounds like a HB. There are color charts, but different ones for different years. The next question is, do you remember if it had the small bumbers? In 74 they went to much bigger ones. Look in the gallery section on this site. Unless someone here has one, Ebay would be a good place to look for a FORD color chart, it will give you interior colors as well as vinyl top info. Sorry, all I have are 77 and later.

Just FYI, my 71 came with a fold-down rear seat and its a trunk model.
It would make the most sense that the Pinto was a hatch. The rear shelf of a trunk model would make things awkward.
I'm not aware of which colors were Pinto, but my 71 Ford paint chips list 2 shades of red, and my 71 brochure has red Pintos.
The 71s in the gallery look sort of familiar. What's a bumbler?
It is a misspelling for bumper (where did the "L" come from?).
F-390: Yes, I do remember hearing about those. I don't have much knowledge about the early ones so normally I tend to stay away from posting mis-information about them (not this time). I have never seen a fold down seat in a later sedan, nor have I seen that option in the books.

I don't remember much about the bumpers, but did find a pic online of a 1973 that seems real close. It's tan, not red, but it's setting off some bells in my head. See http://mclellansautomotive.com/photos/B31166.jpg (http://mclellansautomotive.com/photos/B31166.jpg)
Does this look familiar? It looks like it might be a hatchback. I wish I could find a picture of the interior with the back seat down.
