Title: Door latch "studs"
Post by: FlyerPinto on July 02, 2007, 03:09:16 PM
The studs that come out of the door frame of the car (78 Cruising Wagon) were a little chewed up on my car. So I went to the Ford guys and bought replacements (about $25 each, not cheap) and went to work. The first one was easy; the old one came off, the new one bolted right in and the door fit better than it has since I've owned the car. Yee-ha! Especially since the car is outside as my garage is being worked on and I know the doors leak as there was water on the floor mats when I checked it the other day. The second one was more difficult to get off, and when it came off there was a bit of a clunk. The receiving end of the assembly has dropped away from the frame, leaving nothing to bolt the new assembly into. Anyone ever encounter this? I'm thinking I'm might be able to get to it by removing the inner panel along the back seats, but I don't recall. As I'm currently outdoors with this and am working solid for the next month, I need to get this thing fixed in a hurry. Any help would be appreciated. In the meantime, I'm going to put a tarp over the car tonight. Thanks.

YOU MIGHT HAVE TO TAKE THE SEATBELT ASSEMBLY OUT TO GET
TO THE PLATE. IT SETS IN 2 TABS. THE PLATE NOT THE BELTS.
MINE IS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE QAURTERPANEL-AS WE SPEAK.
THE INSIDE TRIM IS OFF, BUT I CAN'T GET MY HAND IN TO
GET THE PLATE BECAUSE OF THE BELTS. THE PASS. SIDE WENT
ZIP-ZIP. I THINK, MAYBE THE DIRECTION YOU TURN THE STUD OUT
ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, ROCKS THE PLATE OFF THE TABS. NOW JUST
TELL ME IT'S THE OTHER SIDE AND I'LL ADMIT TO JUST NOT BEING
CAREFUL. GOOD LUCK, BUT IT'S NOT REALLY THAT BIG OF A DEAL
IF YOU'VE GOT THE TIME TO WASTE, LIKE I MUST HAVE.

I have never had that happen with the strickers, but I have had that with the door hinges.

What Blink said.

So while I'm not completely hosed, I'll be digging a bit. The other door (passenger side) closes just fine now though, so it will be worth the effort. Also, having the drivers side door pull tied to the emergency brake handle does give the car something of a classic look. God I hope no one takes a picture of this...I'll never live it down. But thanks for the tips, I'll give it a go as soon as I can and let you know how it works out.
