Title: Hart Starting
Post by: Hairball on June 25, 2007, 10:52:05 AM
My 1980 CW has a 2.8 V6 in it. I don't know the year.
After it sits a while it will not start. The carb(2150) has no fuel in it, not even when you pump it , none comes out the accelerater pump.Once you prime it and get it running everything works great.
Do I get a new fuel pump, or rebuild the carb?

Kinda sounds like both to me. The fuel pump I believe has an internal check valve that is suppose to keep fuel in the line. It's a cheap fix so might as well try it. As for the carb, the bowl shouldn't be dry. Maybe a carb rebuild is in order. Only $25 for the carb kit plus some carb cleaner.

That is what I am thinking. Fix the pump, and it will start easy, but still drain gas into my oil. Fix the carb, and the weak pump will soon go out leaving me stranded.
I guess I will fix both.
