Title: factory mag question
Post by: dholvrsn on June 13, 2007, 09:48:25 AM
I just got a set of Ford factory turbine mags of the '80s Mustang style for my Pinto. Does anybody know if they use regular chrome lug nuts or do they take any of those goofy shouldered specialty mag types?

I had an 86 Turbo Coupe with those wheels.  From what I remember, they used regular chrome lug nuts.

If you have them already, just take a look at the lug nut seat (the part where the lug nut would come into contact with the wheel).  If the edge is chamfered (at about a 45 degree angle to the face of the wheel) and the hole is only slightly bigger than the stud, then it takes the standard conical lug nuts.  If the edge is square (no chamfer) and the holes are quite a bit larger than the stud, then it takes the mag type lug nuts.

Good luck!

Regular chrome lug nuts, same as Pinto would have had on it.

Update: I got the wheels and they do mount with regular mag lug nuts. However, the fronts scrape against the upper A-arm ball-joint. So has anybody successfully mounted these wheels on their Pinto and lived to brag about it? How did you do it?

I didn't mount them for that same reason!
You could go with a spacer and remove the Zirt Fitting (grease fitting).
