I have one 1988 TC motor on the picker. I have another still in the TC. I Swapped the motor mounts, pan, dipstick/tube, oil pick up from the pinto motor. I going to dent not cut to make room for the turbo. Remove the heater motor or move it back for clearance. Install the motor then the T-5.(possible?) I have read many different posts from many different sites. I print, highlight, and try to remember every step. Are there any last words of advice that the community could offer to make my weekend a successful one?
Does the sensor located in the TC oil pan need to be moved to the pinto pan. If so, suggestions?
If you could document your progress step by step on the instilation that would be great. Start a thread and tell us what you did that day and the next and next. Have fun and good luck.

I'm going to give my 2ยข from doing Two Turbo Swaps:
1. going to dent not cut to make room for the turbo.
I tried that on my First one, I would suggest taking the Turbo Off. It went so much eaiser on my second one when I did this.
2. Remove the heater motor or move it back for clearance.
You'll have to remove the motor OR get an A/C heater box (Internal fan motor)
3.Install the motor then the T-5.(possible?)
Yes it is possible, You'll have to do it in steps though, First the Bellhouseing the the tranny. Not to mention you'll have to cut some of your tranny tunnel for the shifter for clearance.
3. Does the sensor located in the TC oil pan need to be moved to the pinto pan.
I didn't do it, the only thing it is for is to indicate you are low on oil.
Now some question for you: What about your wiring, what harness are you using? It is easier to install the wiring with no motor in the way! Have you made clearance for Clutch Cable on the K-member? It rubs. Exhaust, on your down pipe how are you going to tighten you inner most stud? What I did is welded a bolt on the flange and tightened it from the top after EDMing (or drilling) the broken stud out of the elbow. The outer stud I drilled a hole in my inner fender and used an 11/16 Deep Well with a Universal (swivel) to tighten that one from the inside of the fender (by the controll arm).
I'm sure there is more, I just can't remember them right now. I'm sure other people who have done this will have more to add.

Thanks for the tips.
-turbo off
-move heater motor back
-no oil sensor
I was going to install the motor That I have hoisted and then transfer wires from the 88 TC that have side by side w/ the pinto. Not reccomended, huh?
Keep those suggestions coming. I have never read anything about exhaust clearance until now. I was going to bring it to a shop. They would probably send me away, I guess.
I will attempt to take pictures and maybe combine all that I have been reading. "The Dummies Guide to Turbo-Pintos". -Chris
ive installed 2 with the tranny attached. one with no help. both went in fine. im using the bellhousing with the dogleg linkage and it barely rests on the crossmember. with no notching. a d9 bell from what i can tell would not touch at all. my holset was also attached when i put the motor in. i notched the shifter hole in the car about 2.5 inches at the front of the hole the same width as the hole and its a good fit there too. i left the injector harness attached to the motor and laid in the rest of the harness after the motor was in.
ctompkins31 & 4cammer72 I've installed both motors in and put the wires in after I had the motor in and also before the motor was in. Doing it before the motor was in was easier. It's not like doing it after the motor was in was that bad though.
4cammer72: with Wagon #1 I swapped from C-3 to T-5 and on Wagon #2 I didn't want to scratch the paint in my engine compartment (for the tranny install). I also didn't notch my K-member but, when I have to do a clutch on the car (I know it's coming) I'm going to do what someone did on turboPinto.com. Finally I swaped from a PK1 to an LA3 that was the first time I disconnected the Injector harness.

I would personally get the XR4TI harness to do the wiring but I guess the 88 can be done, just a bit more work so I have heard. Also make sure to have the right drive shaft for the swap. I put the T5 in after the motor but thats because I had the stock 4 speed in for a while and was not that hard of a swap. Only thing is getting the mount modded to fit in the Pinto. Do more research on here then more and then even more after that. These guys are very good at instructions and helped me all the way. Awesome people!
I don't know how you can move the blower motor back and still have it seal to the firewall and all the ducts in the car.
As far as denting the fender area for the turbo, you will have a heck of a time with the outer flange bolt when you attach the down pipe.
The 88 has the IHI turbo (stock). You will need to re-locate the WGA or do LOTS of denting (or cutting).
I see so many people that think the Mer. harness is the only one to use, but the 86 T/C one is almost as easy. Now the 87/88 one is a NIGHTMARE, good luck. (IE: The coil wires come through the engine harness, out to the headlight harness and around over to the coil. I thing the ride control and ABS wires are co-mingled too).

83-84 TC is a great harness to use as well.
In turbocoupes... the older the harness... the more suited for a swap it is.
