Title: bad wiring
Post by: dholvrsn on June 07, 2007, 10:03:22 AM
Found some bad wiring behind the passenger kick panel of my '79 wagon. Apparently the work of mice or an inept teen mechanic. The blue and yellow wires are bad. One's bare and the other is broken. What do these go to? Any advice. Just solder and heat shrink them? Thanks!

I cannot help you with what they go to.  I prefer an environmental type of splice.  It is crimped and then covered by a plastic shrinkable sleeve.  They come in 3 sizes.

Where is this plug located at?
If it's in the rear I'd say it is either Rear Defrost, Tail Lights, Lift Gate (wagon and hatch models) or of it's a wagon the Rear Over-head light. What I've always done for connections are, useing a soliderless butt connector strip all of "Insulation" off then Crimp it on and do a double shrink tubing (1st one shorter than the 2nd).

The bad wires are in the passenger's front door pillar.

I swapped under dash wiring from Wagon #1 to the Wagon #2. I do remember having to hook those wires back together. Those went to my rear over-head Light in the back of my 80 Pinto Wagon. Those wires hook in under the Kick Pannel right? If so they run down the Pass. side (under the door sill plates), go across under the Carpet Trim Pannel (across the back), into a hole on the Drivers side rear metal pannel (on the bottom), up the rear most Window Pillar then hook into the Light assembly.
After you had mentioned behind the Pass. kick pannel I just had to go look on my Wagon, I thoght it looked fimilar. Sorry I didn't go look the first time I read this post.

The wires have been spliced, soldered, and insulated; and my rear dome light started working.
