Title: Seeking photos and data on Pintos Raced in IMSA and Trans AM U-2 & 2.5 Challenge
Post by: Pintosopher on May 24, 2007, 07:41:09 PM
Hello all,
I'm slowly gathering a data base of reference for the road racing history of the Ford Pinto. Many of the cars that were raced in the IMSA & SCCA series during the 70's have been turned into mini stocks, or even worse ,been scrapped during racing or wound up in the recycle yards. There are a few that I'm sure are still racing in Vintage series ( Brian Walsh , Ed Smith-aka Cheyne/Bean Galpin ford car, Larry Daurora etc), but I'm finding many are just not shown in news archives. If you know of any  of these historic racers from this era ( 1971-1982) that are still intact, let me know as I wish to find as much data as possible. These cars would be a real hoot to see at our ford conventions.
Many thanks in advance..

Pintosopher

The Car and Driver Pint was restored and was featured in an issue a couple of months back

Pintosopher,

Good to see you're still out there somewhere sucking air!

I have some pictures I took of the Ed Smith/Cheyne Pinto at the Trans Am race in July, 1972 at Laguna Seca.  I also have three of the competition:  The #52 Bobcor Alfa and two Datsuns, the #46 (Bob Sharp, I believe) and the #85 (The weekend guest driver was Bobby Allison.).

Also, I took two pictures of two other Pintos, both affiliated with W. W. Automotive.  You can almost make out the company phone number on the B-Sedan car.  The B/S Pinto was at Laguna Seca that same weekend, and the 2nd Pinto was a street-driven one I saw in Santa Cruz in May that same year.

Also, before I sold the Cheyne Pinto to Ed Smith, I took some "detail" pictures, under the hood and suspension stuff; and after Ed got the car, he sent me back some pictures of the freshened-up car in his shop.

If you think you might find these interesting, I'll scan them and email them to you.

If someone would please tell me how to post multiple (as in almost 30) pictures to the site, I'd be glad to.  I can't seem to find the "Your Album" easy button under "Gallery".
