Title: Carpet question
Post by: losin sux on May 23, 2007, 10:33:36 PM
first off what is the type of carpet for a 77?  Mine was replaced at one time and doesn't look right.  Where did you order from and did the install go fine?  I need the passenger area, the rear seat back and the cargo area replaced.  I have a trim code of DT which is Alpine Chamois IIRC.  The exterior is vista orange.  What color carpet does that translate to?  ANY help would be appreciated.

I got mine from 1-A Auto, good for the money.

I know of no-one that has a cargo area carpet, not to say that they are not out there. Unless you get an NOS one from Ford, you will have to deal with some quality issuses.

A 77 with Chamois interior should have a Chamois carpet. The only interior that is a two-tone is the orange; it has a black carpet.

Yes....and it fit well. Because I got a common color I suppose it had been pressed and was already in stock when shipped. If I were to do it again I would call and ask that it be molded without the padding because it proved to be a tad loose over the hump. But the quality is there and I was more then pleased.

I too had loose over the hump issues but not to bad. I didn't strip my interior (on the 73) but I did strip a 1980 and did notice extra padding over the hump. When I installed the carpet in the 73 I added 1/4 inch padding over the hump area and it helped the loose issues. In my case I don't believe removing the padding would have helped the loose issues. Only padding I had on mine was a strip directly under the seat front to back. There was no padding on the hump area. All in all went in well and looks good, I would order from them again without hesitation.

Thanks for the replies so far!  What is the correct type though?  Cut pile, 80/20, nylon loop?   Looking for the most original like.  The carpet on the back of the rear seat looks like a russet color or there bouts, with sun has bleached the cargo area so I don't dare guess on that one while the passenger area looks like a hint more orange than Chamois.  I will say that the headliner and plastic pieces in the rear area are chamois but the seatbelts look orange.

sorry, forgot to answer this... 1977 should be Plush Cut Pile.

Thanks Cookie, now I just have to decide on 1A or Stockinteriors.....SI has the advantage of marketing the cargo area carpet and the high beam switch grommet.  I swear my seatbelt plastic is chamois while the belt is orange.  Decisions, decisions, decisions.  OH what fun!

Remember that colors fade over time, and our cars are in their thirties.
Good luck!
