Title: V8s in early models
Post by: sirtopemshat on May 22, 2007, 10:19:34 PM
I have a 71 trunk model 1.6l 4spd that i was going to use for a 2.3t swap, but instead i have decided to do a v8 swap with a c4. does anyone have any pics of early model v8 pintos? any tips on making a v8 fit in the smaller engine bays. are you guys running the MII motor mounts, motor plates, or making your own motor mounts? i already have a 9" with 4:11 gears and now i just need info on fitting the engine. any help is appreciated.

Yeah, I'm doing that to my 73 wagon, also, and some info on mainly the motor mounts and possible clearance issues would help a lot. And yes, it's staying with a c4 tranny.

I have a set of V8 Hooker conversion headers that are new and very expensive thru Hooker but sell them for less. As far your mounts use Mustang II V8 mounts.
They a very nice streetrod with a v8 in them.

Ahh well the early is not easy to do clean. Ive spent more money and time than id care to admit.. For a few photos check the gallery for some pics of my "progress".

A few quick ideas that ive run into. The headers can be done in three ways. The hooker conversion kit. (I saw a new set go for 325 recently on ebay) Mustang II headers that need to be modified to clear the steering cable or shaft( again check my gallery for pics). And stock exhaust manifolds that exit straight back with no angle down (cheapest easiest way).
The radiator that im using is a 15.5 x 27.5 Griffen 2 1"core 3in thick aluminum. Cooling fans are 2 10in fans on the inside to be more efficiant at cooling. To get the radiator in there i had to loose the stock mounting bolts for the front bumper brackets. I also made a custom front brace for the frame rails and a custom radiator mount.
Im also using a CSR electric remote water pump instead of all the stock stuff to move the water. I still had to put the radiator in front of the radiator support. It barely clears the stock hood. So i lost the hood latch  :(
All this was in hoping to keep the "sleeper look without moving the engine back at all. Well that went south when i realized that the milodon pan hangin down is a dead give-away. Plus the exhaust note that this thing should have is also a dead give-away.
Anyways have more to talk if your interested but less time to type.
message me if your interested.
good luck
