Title: need help quick!
Post by: pimpin_pinto on April 13, 2004, 10:53:50 PM
hey, we messed up putting the engine back in, is there any way to line up the tranny mount and the bolts on the trans without pulling the whole engine?? cause the guy working with me said that he doesnt want to pull the whole thing, and it will be fine if i dont push the car too hard, and dont like put a lot of torgue and rev it real high.  and well, i dont want to have to risk messing up the block, and possibly the frame, so any help would be great

the bolts that come off the tranny, 2 of them, that go throught the tranny mount.

yes i would put them in! The butt end of your tranny will move around too much. You shouldn't have to pull the motor though

I hope you aren't paying that guy to help you.
The only thing I can think of that may be causing your problem is if the transmission crossmember is installed backwards.  Mine is modified for a 5 speed, and I don't remember for sure if the holes were off-center when the car still had the 4 speed.
Seriously, anyone who thinks it would be okay to drive around without the rear trans support bolted up is very, very wrong!
(on edit)
You might just have to loosen the motor mount bolts (the long ones) and tweak the engine/trans around a little to get the trans mount bolts in.

ok, so my best bets are to re-install the cross member, see if it is backwards, losen the motor mounts and shake and push and stuff, any other good ones? thanks again, i haev to get going to school.

well, again my project gets messed up.  the drain plug on the torque converter doesnt line up w/ the hole in the flywheel.  so we gotta pull the trans for now and then maybe the engine.  if anyone knows an easier way, i'm all ears.
