Title: 79 pinto 2.3 automatic transmission bellhousing
Post by: MCato on May 20, 2007, 04:56:10 PM
Can anyone tell me what bellhousings will work with a C4 being bolted to a 2.3.  I am wanting to change a 4sp to automatic.
Thanks in advance

You can use a 2.3 to C4 bell, or a 2.0 to C4 bell IF you use stepped dowel pins. Both are hard to find. Also, you will need the correct flexplate and T/C.

BTW: You WILL need a longer driveshaft too. If have a 6.75" rear, and you can't find the correct driveshaft let me know, I have a few. If you are swapping the 6.75" rear for an 8" at the same time you do the tranny, you can use the same driveshft.

Thanks Bill,
I am learning real fast about availability of these parts.  I located a transmission in GA.  I hope it is rebuildable.  Now I have to find out what flexplate to use.

BTW  This car I am working on is a 1929 replica Mercedes with a pinto Drive train.  Pretty neat little car.  I am building it for my dad for retirement gift.  This will give him something to tinker with.

Thanks again
Mitch

Oh, neat!  An old "Gazelle" kit car!  I thought about getting one of those for the Forolvo conversion I have been tinkering with, but Pintos are actually much cheaper, and easier to find.
