i went to the junkyard today and found a 93 mustang with the 2 plug heads, the electric fan. I know that the heads bolt right on, and dont the mustangs come with roller cams stock? How hard would it be to put that electric fan, the air intake onto my pinto?? How hard would that be?? If possible i would like the fan to come on itself, but if not, i would use a toggle switch, what all would be needed? also i found a 74 comet with really nice leather bucket seats, and a nice shifter(automatic) i was wondering if anyone knew about installing them on my 76 runabout, would they be bolt-ins, or would i have to modify them some? Also i was wondering about the oil pan, i noticed that stock it came with the fron sump oil pan, would anything else fit in there? what is the best oil pan application for it?? thanks for the help, if you can answer any of my questions i would really appreciate it.
Mustangs with 2.3s first came with roller cams in '91, so the one you saw should have a roller in it.
I "think" the radiator fan is controlled by the ECU, which gets it's information from the coolant temp sensor. You can probably make it work by using a coolant temperature switch and using the switch to operate a relay to run the fan. The fan itself would draw too much current to operate without a relay.
It seems to me the problem with later Pintos and non-stock seats is the passenger side floor has a large hump under the seat for the catalytic converter. The seat support on the passenger side is sort of offset towards the right to clear the floor hump. I found this out last summer when I tried to install some seats from an early '90s Mustang. The driver's side would have worked with some modification to the supports, but there was no way I could get the passenger side to work without it being too high up off the floor. Maybe someday when I am feeling wealthy I will order some Corbeau's. They list some supports for the Pinto, so it should be a bolt-in.
You have a few choices when it comes to turning the fan on. One you mentioned, the toggle switch. Another is a thermostatically operated switch. There are switches that turn on at certain temps, like 180* or you can get a switch that is adjustable. There are a couple kinds of probes you can use too. One can be mounted on the fins of the radiator or one of the coolent hoses.
The best part is that they can be found in kit form at just about any parts store. If youre not on a budget I recommend the adjustable kit. If you have A/C then you need a kit that can be used with A/C. It comes with a diode wired in so youre compressor clutch doesnt kick on when the fan does.
Heres an example of what Im talking about http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=1112&prmenbr=361 (http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=1112&prmenbr=361)
that is a nice kit. i am installing the fan when i rebuild my old engine and get everything together for it. I wanna install it all at once, so the air intake, rebuilt engine, trans with a shift kit, possibly new trans, the electric fan, new front end, new rearend(9 inch), or at least gears and mabye some sort or posi-lock, lower it, new struts/springs, coil overs in back, new exhaust, fuel cell, and subframe connectors, probably something i forgot. so i have a lot to save up for, i have 2 jobs though, so it helps, nights at the pizza place, and weekends and some weeknights at the driving range driving the cart. i'm looking for another job possibly too now that summer is coming up. the junkyars around here have tons of the rangers and mustangs, so some of the pats should be easy to get ahold of. thats not even a list of any of the interior stuff i want. oh, before i forget, is there any way to get the tranny to have 2 different setups? like 1 for performance and 1 for economical without having an ecu installed? the comet has a perfect body, i know how great the tail lights looked on that nice gray 74 hatchback from that carshow, so if anyone wants me to pull them, i'll get them for the cost, and if you pay me back and pay for shipping it's all yours.
will the heads off of a 93 mustang fuel injected bolt up to a 76 pinto engine carbuerated? i thought that all heads bolted together and that id doesnt matter, the intake did, so could i just put caruerated intake on there and it would be fine? cause soemone said that if i put those heads on then normal carbuerated intake, i wouldnt really gain any power because those heads are made for fuel injection??
It will bolt up, but there are a few differences.
The top front intake bolt is in a different location. You could drill and tap a new hole to match your intake.
The newer heads have a D shaped intake, the older heads (pre-81 thereabouts)have an oval shape on 1 and 4, and round on 2 and 3. You will have a port mismatch if you use a D-port head with an oval intake. I would get a later D-port intake for use with the D-port head.
If the head you are looking at has eight spark plugs, then the intake is entirely different. A carb intake will not bolt up.
