Title: leaf spring help
Post by: 80pinto302 on May 09, 2007, 08:56:17 PM
Does anyone know a set of springs that are reletivly close the the length to the ones of a pinto so i could make up a shackel to fit them. I'd rather find used ones than pay over 700 for new ones. thanks

J.C. Whiplash, as cheap as I have found. Just be careful, I have gotten springs from them and the "pins" were not in the same location on both. I ordered a 3rd and kept the two that were the closest. One other thing, I had to pull the smallest leafs off and install a spacer; they were too stiff.

As far as one from other cars, the arc, rate, length, pin location, width, and front and rear eyes are all fairly important to them "fitting".

It was about 8 years ago but I bought a set of Sprigs for a Pinto from J.C. Whitney. I'm not sure if they still sell them or not but look into it. They've seemed to be great Springs and there still strong after 8 years.

Just my 2ยข.

Are your main leafs broken? If so, you can get them made by pretty much any leaf spring repair shop. Use your supporting leafs (unless they are broken too).

I looked into buying new springs, and many wouldn't ship, or charged too much to ship to my area (PEI, and you're in CB correct? It'd be the same thing) SO I ended up getting mine custom made by a local guy. Took in one of my broken springs and he took all the measurements he needed and made me a pair. Cost me a good penny, but less than I would have paid for buying them, the difference in the exchange, customs, gst, not to mention the hefty shipping charges. They came out real nice, fit great, only a little stiff, so I removed a leaf.

Good luck with it.

My 2 cents.
