Does anyone know what the differences are between a Turbo head and the n/a head? I need to replace the one for my turbo and need to know if the n/a head will work.
There are differences between the turbo head and all the N/A ones, but they will bolt up.
The big differences are the cumbustion chamber and the lack of the EGR ports. I have been told that some of the N/A heads do not have hardened valves seats too, but I don't know for sure on that. That being said, I have heard from a bunch of guys that use a N/A head with no big problems. I would expect that if you keep the boost to stock levels you SHOULD be fine. If it were me, I would open the chambers.
Bill
bill is right on the money. i talked to my motor man in washington and he told me that the valve seats and combustion chambers are different. DONT GO with bigger than stock boost. if you run all stock, the performance will not be the same as using a turbo head. like bill said open up the ports and go with the better seats and valves.
I was not planning on just bolting a used head on the motor. It will be gone through by my motor man. I just needed to know if there was any difference in the cores. Sorry guys, I should have been more specific on what I was doing. The whole motor is being gone through and will definatly not be stock. Shooting for 300+ HP. Thanks
Where are you located?
I have a stock 2.3T head sitting in my garage. Needs cleaned up and freshened up but it came from a working engine (~88k miles).
I'll let it go for free.
I'm in San Jose California. Where are you located? Oh, and Thank you for the offer 8)

Save the valves from your turbo head. They are special alloys.much better than the stock valves.
