Title: General question
Post by: FlyerPinto on April 30, 2007, 04:22:08 PM
This past weekend I took delivery of my second Pinto Cruising Wagon in as many weekends. This one is in wonderful condition - no rust to be seen - and other than an ungodly what I would call purple or burgundy paint job, she looks great. A prior owner took the silver with the tri-colored stripes car and ground the stripes off before painting the car. Ouch. It will be restored to original condition and I'm very excited about it. Here is my problem though: the other Pinto Cruising Wagon, a yellow sans graphics 1977 2.3L auto with air and all the goodies - front air dam, drip rails, gauge packages, the whole shebang - is quite possibly one more car than what I need. I would prefer to not part out something like this. Quite frankly I'm not sure I could do it in a fashion which wouldn't damage something of value to someone. What is it worth as it sits? It runs, strangely, but it runs. What I mean by that is it starts with a bit of effort, or starting fluid, and runs ok till I drop it into gear. Then it tends to stall, and makes some pretty impressive under hood noises when it does. Then other times, when it is running, it sounds rough for a while, then it clicks, and runs like a gem, the sweetest sound you've ever heard. Is my car possessed? What is it worth? I trailered it home from Illinois and do not have a title here as of yet (Troy, Ohio). I will have pictures by tonight, as the gentleman I just purchased my purple Pinto from is interested in seeing it; I will try to post them here as well but he does get first shot at the car if he wants it. Beyond that, how much interest is out there?

Well I had a Crusing Wagon and drove it from 1995 - 2004 parking it for a couple of years in between (V-8 swap). I Loved the wagon, it was just too Cool with the Bubble Windows in the back, it stood out in a crowd. I hated to scrap it but the Original owner drove it through a couple of winters (Cleveland, OH.), and you know how we use salt here in Ohio. The Chassis was just to far gone for me to try to dump a Ton of money to rebuild it. When I scrapped it I saved the Pannels and Drip Rails for it because I have to have a Cruseing Wagon once again. Project Pinto II will have them on it when I get it repainted Probbably in the Spring of '09'.

When you are sellig it (if that is what you do) you have to keep in mind Pinto's didn't really get a Good Rap so you wont be able to get a bunch of money for it. How much can you get?, well that all depends on what condition the car is in, Body, Interior, Miles and so on.

Get it running better first, then make your decision if you are going to sell it or keep it. When you get it running better you'll be able to get more money for it anyway.
