Title: Mating 5 speed to Pinto 2.0 motor
Post by: Henrius on April 29, 2007, 12:57:17 PM
I hopped up a 2.0 with oversized valves, 10:1 compression ratio, and a few other tricks.  I would really like to keep the revs down by replacing the 4 speed with a 5 speed.  Someone told me that the 5 speeds on the downsized Mustang II with V8 could be used with the Pinto.  Any idea how to do it?  Would I have to change out the bell housing?  Shorten the driveshaft?

The T-5 five speed out of a fox mustang or turbocoupe can be adapted to the 2.0L.  See Turbopinto72 nice post on this http://www.fordpinto.com/smf/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=57&topic=33.20.  I suspect you will need a shorter driveshaft (a fox mustang driveshaft with different rear U-joint might work).

I made the swap on a 72 Runabout and I used a driveshaft from a 75 automatic Sedan. I think that it had a C-4 in it. The splines fit my T-5 and the other end my eight inch rear. Didn't have to touch anything.
