Title: My 1977/78 Pinto Hatchback AKA the www.turbopinto.com project car.
Post by: fomogo on April 29, 2007, 08:46:47 AM
I brought my new baby home friday night, or more accuratly I would say that 77turbopinto and Creamsicle delivered it up to Massachusetts for me. Bill, Connie... MANY thanks!! Connie also let me borrow Bill to swap out the rear axle in my cherokee the next night... AMAZING people.
Now... about my baby.
This is a copy paste from the sell add that was posted for it.
QuoteHistory:
This car was purchased new by the only registered owner in 1977 (she was 75 Y.O. at the time). She passed away in 2001. The car was then purchased by a family friend who stored it indoors until I acquired it.

I have the ORIGINAL CT title to go with the car, as well as all the other paperwork.

Ford produced some '78s and sold them as '77s, this is one of those (rare?). It is a '77 and titled as such, but has a '78 VIN and a BUNCH of '78 parts (full inner front fender skirts, black shifter handle, door pulls w/o chrome, two part rear seat lower, ...)

This car has a unique assortment of options.

Details:
Light Blue Paint
Blue Interior
H/B
72K miles
2.3
A/T (c3)
6.75 Rear
Manual Brakes
Power Steering
Sport Mirrors
Pop-Out Rear Side Windows
Non A/C
Intermittent Wipers
Map Light
High-Back Bucket Seats
Smooth Bumpers
Radio Delete
And a couple of pics for yall.

This is absolutly the best driving pinto I have had my hands on.
Friday night and saturday I put about 200 miles on it, and it ran like a top. Only issue seemed to be a fuel starvation issue on the way to my place friday night that was remedied with a new gas cap.
Not bad for a car that was last on the road 7 years ago.
No creaks, rattles, thumps, or any noise that shouldnt be there, other than some wind roar from shrunken weatherstripping.
Starts on the first turn of the key... if I remember that it isnt fuel injeccted and pat the gas a time or 2.
This thing is so nice I almost feel bad for the plans that I have for it... note the word "almost" in that sentance ;)
But for now I will do maintainance items that a person should do on a car that has been stored for so long.
Belts, hoses, fuel and water pumps...
And a trip to carlisle.
I am very lucky to have grabbed a car this nice as a starting point, will save a LOT of headaches down the road.
Bill put the first miles on the car friday and seemed pleased with it. From a man with his pinto experiance thats a gold star in my book.
Hope you enjoy your peek at it.

Things I learned yesterday...
When the gauge says empty... it isnt lieing.
From sputtering up to the pump to the pump jockey overflowing the tank down the quarter panel... STILL not happy about that... it holds 11.3 gallons and gets 24 mpg in combined 80 mph hiway and around town. Not disappointed with that.

Kool.

Better than the Jeep holding 24 gallons and getting 11.3 MPG.

I cant wait for good weather to be here.
I enjoy driving the wheels off the car.
Speaking of wheels... I may have a lead on an inexpensive set of 10 holes with tires and centercaps. :D

More goodies for the pinto...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Spectre-EMS-PRO-megasquirt-NIB-Harness-standalone-EFI_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ46093QQihZ020QQitemZ300254903840QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
Spectre EMS-Pro
List price on the units are $795 with the harness being another $95.
This comes with some other goodies I can either use or sell off.
I think it was a damn good score.
I also bought a fuel tank sump pump kit, a MLS head gasket, and a custom intake manifold.

You've got a really nice car Jim. I look forward to seeing it on the road. If you ever get your old butt back down to the Carolinas, maybe we can get them side by side for some spirited driving. Keep up the good work.

Looking through the the board and seen your post.  Just wanted to say, nice car and should be even nicer when you get done.  I had a girl friend in the 80's that had a car just like that, same color year etc.  Hmm wonder whats she is doing now? Anyway NICE CAR!  Keep us posted on the progress.
