The Distributor gear literally exploded. The oil pump has no binds, the shaft bearings are brand new, and the shaft isn't bent. What is the reason for the gear breaking I am totally stumped. :wow:
I've heard of this happening if you are using a High Volume/Pressure Oil Pump. Is that the case here? Did you use too thick of oil?
When I did my conversion to a 2.3 Turbo I was warned not to use a H.P. or H.V. Pump for this reason.

Was the engine fully warmed up? Cold mornings make the oil pretty thick.
It could have just been a bad gear,if it happens again then worry about it.
I have seen threads on other forums about the block not being machined correctly.

it could be that the weights locked up the distributor and in turn sheared the distributor drive gear. if this is the case, you got lucky. it happened to my 2.8 before I bought it, and it broke the drive gear on the cam instead of the distributor. and I had to replace the camshaft. alot of work. have the distributor checked. replace if necessary.
