Title: 2.3L engine
Post by: FlyerPinto on April 25, 2007, 07:30:40 AM
I have three different Pinto/Bobcat/Mustang II vehicles, all equipped with the 2.3L engine. I would love to find a good exploded view diagram or something similar of this engine. I have a Chilton's repair and tune-up guide, but it isn't as good as what I had hoped. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

You need to get a Ford shop manual for the year you want. Tell me exactly what you are looking for and I may be able to send you a scan.

I'm actually trying to get a good look at where everything is supposed to be and is identified as such. I'm trying to put this thing back in running order (the Bobcat) and it has sat outside unused for some time. I'm not certain where everything on the engine (vac hoses and the like) is supposed to be connected and there seem to be an awful lot of them. I could take it to a mechanic and have it done easily enough but 1) The car isn't plated; 2) I would have to tow it due to a lack of flooring; and 3) I want to do as much of this myself as what I can.

I have seen Ford manuals on cd advertised online. What do you think of those? And thanks for the help!

I have actual Ford parts books, Ford shop manuals, and the CD. The CD is okay, but there are lapses in its coverage (by the distributor I obtained mine from.) In some instances there should be pages from a Ford parts book, but they use the shop manual instead. Personally, I think you are better off with a set of books, that way you know it is complete info. The cd is generally good, but, as I said, there are some lapses.
As for having a mechanic do your work- don't doubt yourself and tackle it yourself (unless specialized tools are required.) I find it comforting to know all the ins and outs of my vehicle- that plus the fact I know it gets done right.
Good luck and feel free to ask for any info, I have a library of parts books- I will provide what I can.
