Title: How does water get out of the doors?
Post by: pintoguy76 on April 12, 2007, 08:36:29 PM
I have a question maybe somone can answer. I notice when it rains that it seems like alot of water probably goes down inside the door. Did the factory provide some type of drain or something in the door to let that water escape or did they forget that and let the door rust out its own drain hole? What about the cowl panel? I heard the factory didnt put sufficent drainging in it either. How do i fix that?

There are holes in the bottom of the door, outboard of the weather stripping to let the water out. The cowl drains on the sides, under the fenders, just forward of the doors. I'm stripping a car now that had a good amount of pine needles and dirt in the cowl, but it still drained prety well.

The only thing is that the holes are not on the ends so if you park on an incline it will hold some water.

Keep the drain holes clean. I have put a small amount of engine oil in the doors whenever I have the panels off.

Here's a picture of the cowl right drain.  There's another one like it on the other side.
