Do the 2.3 turbo engines use 1 piece rear main seals? If not, can I take a later n/a block that uses a 1 piece rear main seal and use the turbo parts in it? (excpet the crank of course, it would be different as well). It seems to me that 2 piece rear main seals have a bad habbit of leaking. My 76 still leaks in the same spot after i replaced its rear main seal but im not sure if its the rear seal or the manual transmission. Think my 74 is leaking oil too, both at the main seal and somewhere up front but i havnt worked on those leaks yet.
Yes, the 2.3T's have a one piece. For you you to convert to a one piece you will need to change the block.
Two piece seals can be installed successfully and be leak free for years if done correctly. The real problem is that a lot of them don't last 25+ years.
I have replaced a few without removing the engine from the car, but I had one that the upper would not budge, so out came the engine.

Ok thank you. I plan on running 2.3 turbos in both my pintos and so i was just wondering if the rear seal on those were 1 pc or 2. Glad to hear they are 1 piece tho. :)
