I am modifying an instrument cluster with tachometer for my project and have found that the lense cover is very cloudy / milky. The part numbers on it say it is a 77, BTW. I tried cleaning it with soap, water, and glass cleaner with non abrasive cloths but it will not go away. It doesnt look like stratches but more like a type of oil or something. It makes the speedo and tach both very hard to see and I would like to be able to clean it or polish it out with a dremel tool for example. If not, the alternative is to try to find another one or fabricate something. Any help is appreciated! :)

Just replace it.

sounds funny but brasso will polish out the cloudiness,It will not hurt the plastic. If that doesent work I have a parts cluster from a cruser $20.00 plus shipping.
Earthquake, I'll try the brasso and let you know if I need to pick up the cluster from you.
Thanks!

From Pintony
Thanks for the help, Pintony!
Try Some "Meguiars Cleaner Wax". Polish both sides of the lense. This stuff is GREAT. I've cleaned up Thunderbird, Mustang, Gran Marquis (and so on) headlights that are all clouded over. I've used this stuff on Tail Lights Side Marker Lights and like I said this stuff is GREAT.
At Marine (boats) places they sell "Clear Plastic Polish" that stuff works well also.
Shade Tree Powersports ( www.shadetreepowersport.com ) sells this stuff called "Novus Plastic Polish" you would probbably want Polish #2 $6.99 for an 8oz bottle (part #35-42). I use it on my Snowmobile Helmet Lenses when ever I need and it is just what the doctor ordered.
My 2ยข! hope it helps.

Earthquake,
The brasso worked! I am very surprised but after about 1/2 of polishing, the lenses are clear. The headlight lenses are very cloudy on my 92 Crown Vic so I'll either try brasso or Meguiars Cleaner Wax to avoid the cost of replacing them as well. Pennys add up so thanks for all the 2 cent donations ;D!
Cool Just trying to do my part.

You could also use Eagle One aluminum wheel polish. That's what I used on my 87 Mustang. Also, regular paste (not gel) toothpaste works wonders on clear plastic. I used some of that on my 69 F100 dash cluster, and it looks almost as good as my uncle's new lens on his 69.

I'll give that a try when the situation comes up.
I'll also have to put that one in the note book!

Wow! Thanks for all the good info. Who would have thought that you could have a "minty fresh" instrument cluster? :D
