Title: Pinto History and 'Birthday'
Post by: douglasskemp on April 01, 2007, 07:43:43 PM
Am I crazy :swirl: thinking we used to have a link on here that had the history of the Pinto from concept to production?  I thought I remember seeing pictures of full scale clay models dated sometime in 1969.  Oh, and when did the first car roll off the line?  I am assuming this would be the 'birthday' of the Pinto, correct?  That is how the Mustang guys do it.  April 17, 1964.  I just got to thinking about when the Pinto's birthday was, and realized I had no idea.  So I came here to see if I could find the answer on my own, :search: but it must be hidden and encrypted somewhere in a deep dark batcave computer core 330' below the Pentagon.  Thank you all.

That's really neat! The concept car looks alot like an AMC Hornet.

AHHH yes!

Thanks.  I knew I wasn't going senile at 30.  I have that book somewhere in AZ too.  I knew I had seen it somewhere before.  August 10th 1970, or September 30th 1970.  Which should we consider?  Maybe I will post it as a poll.

Guys,

I have a brochure and a press release that lists the day to the public as September 11, 1970. That piqued my interest due to what 9-11 means to us today.

I like this thread. Have any of you followed many all-Ford shows where they are constantly listing things like the 40th anniversary for the Bronco as they did last year at Carlisle.....this year i am seeing the 40th year of the Cougar. That would place 9-11-2010 as the 40th anniversary of the Pinto.

I was thinking about contacting the folks at Greenfield Village, Henry Ford Museum, where I showed in 2005 and see if they have any interest in letting a bunch of us in for that year and celebrating our cars 40th birthday as well. We could shoot for the same thing at Carlisle and Knotts Berry Farm.

What do you all think? That gives us three years to plan, but time flies and I think this would be a good year of press for our cars. Magazines as well!

Check this out, my Pinto was manufactured in sep of 1970, I was born Sept30,1970
Kinda cool i always thought, plus the car never left the fam. My Gram bought it new in 1970/1971, gave it to my father in 1985 i think, and he gave it to me in '87. Ive had it ever since. :happy_bday: anyways

Dave, that is EXACTLY why I brought this up.  I figured anniversaries like this need to be recognized, especially when I had come to the realization that my 78 turns 30 next April.

I am glad I am not the only one who thinks we should celebrate the anniversary of the Pinto. Maybe bringing up that the Pinto is celebrating their annversary on 9-11 will give people something to smile and laugh about that day.
I am going to celebrate my wagons 30th birthday next year (Febuary 10th) My wife wants to have me commited but it will be fun.
On a side note, I got it out of storage today and took it out for a nice drive to Gus's Diner in East Troy WI. It was good to play again after a few months.

God Bless Everyone
