Well, I used 20w50, but I also drove my pinto in Tucson, so it is slightly warm there.  If I remember correctly, with an oil change, I'd put in 5 quarts with a new filter, of course checking it again after the first start up to circulate the new oil into the new filter.

Thanks, I was thinking 10 30 or 10 40. I live in indiana so I will re-think this now

Tlcmbc,
It really depends on the weather range in your area. Summer 20/50 Winter 10/40.
Summer = 50 and above Winter = 50 and below.

as high horse has mentioned it depends on weather and climate areas, if your in indianna, most likely a 5/30 or 10/30 will do just fine year round, another thing to bring to mind is how many miles are on the motor, anything below 20,000 i would use a 5/20, between 20,000 and 40,000 i would use a 5/30, 60,000 to about 100,000 i would use 10/30. between 100,000 and 150,000 i would use 10/40 anything after that is 20/50. but im from california. really warm here. ive even seen guys run a 15/40 rated for deisel pick-ups at around 140,000.

bluefordpinto is right on the money. i lived in pa for 37 years and that is exacty what i recomend with the oil ratios.the miles are what make the big difference, then the weather. its only my opinion. but ive been wrong before.
