Thats a good question. In 1971 there were 288,606 , 2 door sedans made and 63,796 " runabouts". The rarer of the bunch today would be one with a 1600cc motor runabout. As far as the color brown, there were a lot of brown cars made that year so I dont think that would be a factor. The bigger factor would be an "original condition car" with the factory paint job.

my pinto is a 1971 ford pinto 2 door sedan. it has a 2.0 4 cylinder  Golden brown with a tiny bit of rust.  all is origional except for the electric fuel pump.  body is nice except for one dent on the rear end of the driver's side.  its an automatic, with over 700,000 miles on it.  Daily driver..  my baby.. my pride and joy..
and its not for sale.. i will never sell this car...

I would say they are rare especially in Canada where they can rust out. My car is also 71 but it is a Rallye I think thats pretty rare.

My interpretation of your question lies solely in your location. what im trying to say here is, where your located is probably going to make a difference in rareity. im in California, and out here pintos are a dime a dozen. especially the earlier ones, such as 71-74 models. wheras back east the bad weather and salt used on the roads causes rust at an alarming rate, making old steel cars deteriorate, and eventually dissapear. :-\

 I've got 30c to spend on 3-71s, I'll take a red 71, a Dark green 72 and another Pangra ( any color)  ;D

I'd just be happy with some early bumpers for the one I've got.

Not sure but I think mine is a runabout, it has a trunk on it and came with a 1600 and a four speed transmission. if this is a runabout please let me know.

Nope. Runabouts are a hatchback instead of a trunk.

And, 71 runabouts had the small window on the hatch. That hatch is a rare piece.
