Title: Need torque spec for front suspension
Post by: AJPinto on March 25, 2007, 12:01:33 PM
I'm doing new bushings up front and need all the torque specs.
I have the Chilton manual but its pretty bad, dosen't have the upper a-arm specs.
I'd like to get factory torque specs if possible.
Anyone have the facory service manual? Thanks a lot.

Well according to my 1971 Pinto Shop Manual:

**Description followed by torque spec in lb-ft**
Shock Absorber Upper Attachment:  20-28
Shock Absorber Lower Attachment:  60-80
Strut to Side Rail:  60-80
Strut to Lower Arm:  30-45
Lower Arm to Underbody:  75-110
Brake Backing Plate to Spindle:  20-35
Upper Arm Shaft to Body:  75-105
Wheel Bearing Adjusting Nut:  17-25
Ball Joint to Spindle (upper and lower):  60-90 (Torque to minimum specification; then, tighten the nut to the nearest cotter pin slot and insert cotter pin.)

I am going to guess that these specs most likely did not change over the 10 years that Pintos were made, but I do know the suspensions did change slightly after 1973, so they may have changed the specs at that time.  I do not have a newer shop manual here to verify specs over the years.
