I,m almost ready to put in my engine just have 1 question. My motor is a 1986 xr7..Do I use the oilpan gasket for it or do I use the one that matches the 1978 pinto oil pan?
I use NEITHER.
I cut a section of gasket material to run in the front an rear curves, and use RTV. I do similar with the valve cover.
If you are going to use a gasket, get both and see if they are the same, if not, just use the one that fits and return the other.
BTW: Don't forget to move the dipstick tube.

thanks for the info on the dipstick I called the parts stores and they only have the gasket for the pinto in stock they said they needed to know what month the xr7 was built.. he said they don't make gaskets for it after 2/86...Dave
I would get that one and see.
Bill
If I remember correctly... *brushes cobwebs aside*... use the pinto gasket... just make damn sure it fits properly.
Also... do you have the pinto oil pickup? Some dont think about this till they are doing assembly and the pan wont go on.
Jim
Or they don't use the Pinto pan, and can't understand why the engine won't fit in the car.
Bill
thanks for the help guys I'm off to the parts store! ;D
I used the stock cork side rail gaskets and RTV on the end crank seal parts.
thanks guys got the motor put in last night!!
