Title: T5 fluid help
Post by: 2point3turbo on March 10, 2007, 10:58:55 PM
I need to know a few things, first is how much fluid goes in the T5 and second, do you fill on the upper fill hole or lower on the WC T5?

Do you know what fluid to put in it? Most T-5's don't take gear lube, they use ATF. You probably know that, but I wanted to mention it.

Thanks, I got ATF for it and will fill it up today. I was unsure of how much because the cars front end will be up in the air but I guess I can unplug the hole then lower it to fill. Thanks again.

Just my 2c here, but why don't you jack up the entire car (both ends) so the car is level, AND you can reach the plug hole.  Jack stands are wondrous things.

Not Dumb. I remember driving my SVO in '88 into a service station to have the fluid level checked. After dropping it down from the hoist, my shifter was stuck and wouldn't move. there is some bolt on a T-5 thats sometimes is mistaken for a fill hole and removed by accident and that's what happened to me and I've heard it somewhere else also. To finish the story, I had to sit in the car while the mechanic did something underneath until it finally shifted right.

That would zoop. Now that I had time to drive it with the T5, I am not all that impressed. Its nice to have a fifth gear but I kinda miss my 4 speed. Maybe its just my rear end thats slowing me down now. I also got a T3/T4 installed and it takes more time to spool than the Garrett that was in it. I think I may switch back to stock. I also have a crappy boost controller. I dont recommend buying the non spring or bleeder type. Its either on or off, no in between.

What gears are you running?  With the O/D, personally I would go 3.73 or 4.11 for a street car, deeper still for strip.

I ran a T5 with 4.10s for a while... got tired of first gear being like granny low in a tow truck.
For a daily driver I LOVE 3.45-3.55 with the 4 banger T5. 4.10s are great with the V8 T5.

I agree with Jim.

I have 3.40's and it is PERFECT.

Where can I get new set of gears. I am tired of first gear as well and need to get something going. I am going to be putting in an 8" soon and want to get my tranny rebuilt at the same time, it grinds going back into first and second.
