I've been considering going to a 5 bolt on 4-1/2" pattern on the 8" rear in our 79 Pinto, the rear was originally from a '76 Mustang II. Are there any junkyard swaps that one can look for to bolt in? I'm in upstate NY and we don't see any Pintos in the junkyards. If I had to save some nickles and get some axles from curries' that might be an option for down the road but I don't have a large budget for the car, if the swap ran into mega bucks I guess we'll live with the 4 bolt but it seems as if the wheel options are fewer. I looked through the recent posts but didn't see anything on this maybe if I went further back or looked at somewhere else in this site, I'm just not that familiar with it. I like the Pinto we have, its fun to drive I'd considered other swaps but would rather drive it as is for a while before we look into a v6 or v8 swap. Unfortunately being from this area it has a good deal of bondo although looks wise it still looks ok theres alot of other issues I'd like to take care of before I start tearing anything down for now. I'll quit babbling on for now if anyone has ideas for the axles/wheels please pass em on, thanks Mike in NY
further on I did read through the posts on the 8" this gets confusing, I'll have to study on further, Mike in NY

Thanks Bill, I did eventually find the series on the 8" didn't sound lik any easy fixes, can the 4 lug axles be re drilled to make em 5 lug? Thanks again - Mike in NY
Just put a Ford Ranger rearend in it.I put 1 in a wagon. They hold up real good with a 2.3 Turbo motor. :fastcar:
I am not sure of the quality but they have conversion plates for that on ebay. They are aluminum so maybe they are good but not sure on that.
