Title: are the doors different?
Post by: Felix Wankel on June 04, 2003, 07:03:45 PM
Is there a difference between the wagon and hatchback doors? My doors are junk, and there are some straight ones in the junkyard, but they are all on hatchbacks.

I would not assume that a wagon door will fit a sedan and vise versa. Acording to the fiberglass replacement part they list a 71-76, and with big letters NOT WAGON. I would take it from that that there is a difference.

I've read elsewhere that they aren't the same, but I can't get a wagon and sedan next to each other to compare them.  :(

The tops of the doors are what is different.  On the wagon, the tops are straight across.  And on the sedan / runabouts, the tops slope downward to follow the roofline.

Hope this helps  ;)

Whats the difference?  ???
I was thinking about getting fiberglass doors for the hatchback and swaping the window frames.
Is this worth the time, or should I just swiss cheese the steel doors? I still want the drivers window to work.

I'd recommend "swiss cheesing" the door, but to keep the window working, use a 1' wide nylon belt with a clip on the end, hook the web into a hole in the glass, use plexiglass if ya really want it light, and screw the clip for the belt in the right position to hold the window closed. Gets rid of about 25 lbs worth of regulator and stuff, and yer window still goes up and down.
I had a pic of this being done, but now I can't find it. The clip goes on the inside of the door about 2/3's of the way down from the top, and he had a lil hook thing on both sides to keep the belt from going lopsided. When the window is down, the clip also keeps the window from falling all the way down in the door. Neat setup, works great, and it's cheap.

That sounds great.
I have to check the dragstrips rules to see if I can run it at the track.
Thanks
