Is the wagon a V6 or a 2.3?  i am not sure about the V6 trans, but I would have to say that any 4cyl 4spd trans would not be a good idea behind a V8.  The V8 trans bolts thread into the bellhousing with the bolt heads towards the rear of the car, and the 4cyl trans bolts thread into the trans with the bolt heads inside the bell.  There are exceptions to this bolt rule like the early fox mustang 4cyl 4spds, and the T5.

A 4spd from a 4cyl will QUICKLY grenade under the stress of even a mild V8. A 4spd from a MII V8 will grenade eventually as well. Save yourself some aggravation & get a T-5 from a Fox 'Stang.
