Title: Manual trans question
Post by: grgic on March 03, 2007, 01:10:49 PM
I recently leased my pinto to a production company for a commercial and they destroyed my car(not to worry they are taking care of it)
the trans is shot and I have found several on internet parts searches, my question is. manual trans,  English and German. whats the difference and are they interchangeable. the tans in there now is from a 73 2.0L squire wagon. I haven't even looked at it yet. the other question I have is I can get a trans from a 1980 mercury Capri, 4sp. will it fit in my pinto.

I belive the German tranny is for the 2.0, the English for the 1.6?? They have the same bolt pattern so they should interchange.

A 79 Capri (fox body) tranny will not bolt to a 1.6 or 2.0 without modifing the top of the bell (Ultimatepinto has done it, you might PM him for details) and getting stepped dowl pins.

BTW: The bell on the Capri tranny will bolt to a T-5, and the bell and fork on it are worth $150. alone.

Like I mentioned, not without some work (cutting and welding).
