Ok so in a week I will be driving the Pinto from Tucson, AZ to Needles CA, from Needles on up to Marysville, CA. In total the trip will be about 960 miles and I'm guessing about 18-20 + hrs of driving time. (I don't wanna push her too hard.) So anyways, has anyone been anywhere around these parts? If I break down is there going to be anyone around to help me out? What spare parts should I plan on bringing along with me? Thanks for any insight and/or advice you can offer.

Jay leno tells me that you can do the whole trip without a pee break if you wear an adult diaper ;)
Hey Adam,
Good luck on the trip...if you should have problem`s there are plenty of cities on the way up...I`ve made the red-eye run many a time from Chico to Las Vegas and never had a problem with getting assistance...just try to keep the lil pony at 65 or under...let us know when you`re makin` the run as I`m only 40 mile`s north of Marysville...maybe we could hook up for some coffee and B/S ...Let me know! I`ll PM you my Phone #...

Just take the typical parts for a long trip, i.e., belts, hoses (incl. some heater, fuel, vacuum, etc.,) some spare wire, tools, extra fluids (for the car AND for you,) and I know this seems like a no-brainer, but make sure your spare tire isn't flat, and you have all you need to change it if you do get a flat. Anything I missed?
Hey Rex! I am actually originally from Marysville and have been down here in Tucson going to school and playing football. I acquired the Pinto while I was down here and it turns out the guy I got it from bought it from a woman up in Paradise and drove it all the way down here. So the car will be returning to its' stomping grounds I guess. My brother has a 73 Pinto too and we're going to eventually get the two of them put together and cruise them. I am only going to be in town for a week and then will be moving back for good in 2 months. We can try and get together sometime, I'll be in touch

if you push it hard take a spare alternator. i used to drive from whittier to wendover utah hard all the way. until i slowed down the alternator i spun the friggin bearings or shook apart the case on three different times. try getting back on the road in Nephi, utah at 3 am sometime. what a trip made it in 10 hrs
I like to carry a few ignition parts that have left me stranded before.....points, condenser, a plug or two, cap, rotor and the tools to install them. I used to run from OK to CA and even carried a timing light and tach-dwell meter.

If it is a OHC engine, I would carry a spare cam belt along with the special tools to replace it. They die with out warning.
I never had a fuel pump totally die, but a spare fuel pump would be nice to have along (they are small).
These are in addition to the previously mentioned items.
