I was looking for a replacement for the front dash speaker in my 73 and this is what I found...
Thanks to member Billnall the Ford Parts Man - Dash speaker bracket part# D1FZ18963A is listed to fit 71-80 in the Ford Parts Catalog.
So a 5x7 speaker is what is needed to fit the bracket. Original speakers are setup for the factory mono radios and I wanted a speaker that could be connected to a newer stereo and both right and left channels.
I found this - A dual voice coil speaker that connects to both right and left channels on newer stereos.
for more info see here ---> http://www.casmfg.com/DVC_Speakers.htm
In the Custom Autosound application chart they list part # DVC3001 for Pinto's and after a few emails and calls I found that the DVC3001 is a 4x10 speaker and wrong for the Pinto front dash speaker mount. I didn't check but the DVC3001 - 4x10 may be correct for the rear deck in trunk models.
The DVC3005 is a 5x7 speaker and the one I ordered for the front dash speaker replacement. Custom Autosound doesn't sell direct to the public and they gave me this name and # to call to order the speaker I wanted...
InDemand 1-888-668-6386 (cost was $44.95 without shipping) I received the speaker a couple days later.
Below is the 1st of 5 pictures I will post to show how I mounted the speaker to the bracket. It shows the speaker I ordered and hardware that was included with the speaker. Also shows the mounting bracket and screws for the original speaker as well as the fender washers I got to mount the speaker to the bracket. You will notice in this first picture the DVC3005 speaker has 4 holes to mount the speaker and the original speaker only had 2 mounting holes.
In these 2 pictures you will see how the speaker fits on the bracket and again notice how the mounting holes on the speaker do not match up to the original mounting holes for the stock speaker.
These 2 pictures show the speaker mounted and how I did it. I used a couple fender washers, cut away part of each washer so it would fit around the speaker and bent the washers so it would all fit nice and secure.
Later I will add some black cloth between the speaker and the mount bracket but for now I just wanted to share my experience using this setup. Unfortunately it will be some time before I get to hear it installed to give my opinion of sound quality and will be sure to add to this post once I get to hear it installed.

Rear deck speaker is 6x9 on all Pintos from factory.
Speaker installed and stereo all wired up, I have a cheap Sony Xplode 45w/channel CD/Stereo setup I used and sounds excellent compaired to what was replaced. If you want a modern speaker setup for the dash this is a perfect choice in my opinion and I will be doing this to all my Pinto's as needs arrise. I doubt this setup would impress people who want the very best in sound (multiple speakers setup w/amps and be heard 2 blocks away) but for better than basic sound I think this setup works great. I could even consider not installing any other speakers and still be happy w/the sound from this single speaker setup.
I am sorry to report.... The dash speaker is blown, that didn't last very long. Once I hooked up 2 rear 6x9's I couldn't hear the dash speaker anymore if I turned it up. I played with the front and rear balance as well as base settings and it didn't take long for the front one to blow.
as stated above "I doubt this setup would impress people who want the very best in sound" however, it does suprise me how easy it was to blow.
